Colophon
How this book was made
A short account of the materials and decisions, recorded here in the manner of the back matter of a printed book.
- Body
- Newsreader, a contemporary book serif drawn by Production Type for sustained reading on screen. Optical sizing is enabled where the browser supports it.
- Sans
- Inter by Rasmus Andersson, used sparingly: for labels, marginalia, and the small uppercase tracking that marks a turn.
- Paper
- A warm cream, #F5F0E5, with a faint paper grain laid over it. The accent is a vermilion oxblood, #9C3520, used only where a printed book would have used red ink.
- Construction
- Built with Astro and MDX, statically rendered. Each essay is a single file of prose; the typography is done once, in CSS, and then left alone.
- Provenance
- Every essay is © Paul Graham, reproduced here in admiration. The canonical text (and any newer work) lives at paulgraham.com.
I set these essays into a book in 2026 because I wanted to read them this way.
